The Spanish-speaking home of the Tokyo Olympics, Telemundo Deportes, has unveiled the first multi-camera virtual reality (VR) kit used for Telemundo’s intense Olympic coverage. A state-of-the-art band, as well as a completely renovated sports studio, complement the intense production from Tokyo, providing viewers with an immersive experience during the games.
“We are proud of the work our production and operations teams have done to implement the technology with the new virtual reality suite,” said Elie Velasquez, Executive Vice President of Content at Telemundo Deportes. “We continue to leverage Telemundo Center resources in our coverage of major live events such as the Olympics to complement headquarters production, and to provide the best possible production experience to audiences.”
The main Telemundo Deportes complex has been completely renovated with elements referring to the Tokyo Olympics, with the possibility of lighting, graphics and augmented reality (AR). AR graphics will be displayed as parallax effect on large LED wall. All this new technology is integrated into the normal sports graphics workflow.

Telemundo Deportes’ live coverage of Tokyo comes from a location overlooking the iconic Tokyo Olympic Stadium, which will host the opening and closing ceremonies. In addition, some soccer matches are broadcast from stadiums across Japan, for men’s and women’s soccer competitions.
Nearly 250 Telemundo employees from the production, technical and operations teams work tirelessly between Tokyo and the Telemundo Center to provide viewers with unique and original coverage of the games.
Hosts who specialize in covering major sporting events, Anna Yurka and Miguel Gorwitz, are responsible for broadcasting from Tokyo. Also from Japan, Andres Kantor and Manuel Sol narrate some football matches accompanied by a team responsible for covering everything that happens from the stadiums. In addition, there are three additional production teams present on the Olympic website, to offer the gaming experience in Japan to all viewers, on all platforms.
Over 25 commentators, experts and Olympians will cover all corners of the Tokyo Olympics straight from Telemundo Centre. The team will be led by Telemundo Deportes Boxeo Telemundo and TYM host Karim Mindiboro, and Jessica Carrillo of Al Rojo Vivo, who will host Games Day Recap that will air on Telemundo on Monday. Live coverage of Universo is covered by journalist Diana Rincon, while the soccer competitions also feature commentary and analysis from legendary Mexican soccer player Carlos Hermosillo and celebrity broadcasters Cuban Alvarez, Sami Sadovnik and Eduardo Biskaert. The team will be complemented by an unparalleled group of veteran Olympic journalists and former athletes to enhance coverage with their extensive experience in all sports disciplines.
