The Calaveras Enterprise is the premiere source for in-depth news in Calaveras County, covering topics of interest to our readers throughout the Mother Lode region. We’ve been serving the community with high-quality journalism since 1851.
As a weekly paper and 24- hour online resource, our finished product relies on dedicated writers and photographers who have a passion for both anticipating and capturing events of significance to our coverage region. We shine a spotlight on county government, local businesses, student athletes, real estate trends, community events, environmental issues and more.
Interested in contributing to the Enterprise? Read on to find out how to join our pool of freelance writers and photographers. We try to respond to all inquiries, but if you haven’t heard back from us within a month, you might want to pitch elsewhere.
Writing
We are looking for writers to cover topics including community events, schools, sports, business, tourism, fires, agriculture, art and culture. The ideal freelance writer lives locally, but this is not required for some assignments. We expect at least three photo options included with each article, and the writer is responsible for taking photos unless otherwise stated.
In considering a new writer, we will request to read several clips of your previous work. From there, we may discuss what topics you are interested in and best suited to cover, and present a number of potential stories that you may wish to take on. Freelance writers can also pitch story ideas, limiting the email text to a few sentences only. Clips of previous work or a portfolio should be included in the pitch.
Rates offered may vary and will be discussed following confirmation of mutual interest.
All pitches and freelance inquiries should be sent to dakota@calaverasenterprise.com
Photographers
The Enterprise is seeking talented photographers who are also willing to write. However, if you consider yourself a photographer only, that’s OK. We can still utilize your skills on certain assignments. High-quality photos on the front page are what draw attention to our paper.
Again, rates offered may vary and will be discussed following confirmation of mutual interest.
Inquiries from photographers should include several photos and can be sent to dakota@calaverasenteprise.com.
