Events At Swinburne This National Science Week

August 8, 2022 by Staff Reporter

Swinburne is celebrating National Science Week from August 13-21.

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology and provides Swinburne an opportunity to acknowledge and share the outstanding contributions of our scientists with the community.

Swinburne’s commitment to knowledge is driven by our research and focus on impacting the real world, transforming our global and local communities. As a trusted and respected world-class leader in research excellence, we are determined to make a real difference to the communities we serve.

Some of the best (and worst!) movies of all time include discussions on science, a history of forgotten women scientists, a Women in STEM networking evening, and a free public astronomy lecture uncovering mysteries with James Webb Space. wants. The telescope is not to be missed!

See below for more information about these events:

Scientific Assemble – The Science of Superheroes from Screen to Laboratory

When: Monday 15 August from 7.00 pm to 8 pm

Where: ATC101 Lecture Theater (Ground Floor) 427-451 Burwood Road, Hawthorne

The science of science fiction matters; More people will be exposed to physics and science concepts than in classes in movies, so it’s important that Hollywood gets it right. As we’ll see, the accuracy of the science doesn’t take the fun out of film, and in fact, the best movies in terms of physics are often the best in terms of movie quality. It’s also a great way to learn physics by seeing what works well and how some movies do it so poorly.

Join Swinburne professor Alan Duffy, astrophysicist, who will take you on a journey discussing science in some of the best (and worst!) movies of all time.
