Blizzard plans to change the names of the heroes

August 27, 2021 by Staff Reporter

Activision Blizzard’s reputation has been damaged a lot over the past few weeks. The California discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuit made waves and affected the entire company.

One of the most popular characters in the hero shooter “Overwatch” is now under fire himself and will soon have to get used to a new name.

Why did the name change?

According to rumors, longtime Blizzard developer Jesse McCree has been embroiled in a sexism and discrimination scandal. Although it is not known how deeply Macri was really involved in the scandal, Blizzard reacted quickly and fired he and other high-level employees of the development studio. His legacy is still visible thanks to his many years of involvement in several Blizzard games.

On August 26, the Overwatch development team announced in a tweet It was announced that the character would be renamed. According to the tweet, gunslinger Macri was scheduled to appear in a short story in September. This now moves towards the end of the year and the developers are taking the opportunity to give the hero a new name.

Instead, players will get a new “free for all” card in the fall and a promise from the developers that they’ll never name a character after an employee again.
